Join us this International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies as communities across Johannesburg turn awareness into action for cleaner air and healthier environments.

Through the Breathe Better Together project, our Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) are marking the day through practical environmental activities that show how everyday action can contribute to cleaner, healthier communities.

  • Date: 7 September 2026

  • Time: 09:00 – 13:00
  • Theme: Economic benefits of clean air action

From cleaning illegal dumping sites and restoring shared spaces, to hosting Trashion Shows, raising awareness about clean energy, and creating gardens at schools, communities are finding creative and meaningful ways to take action.

This International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, don’t just talk about clean air. Take action.

What will you do for the air you breathe?

  • Clean your community: Take part in a clean-up or help tackle illegal dumping.
  • Get creative with waste: Reuse, recycle and turn waste into something meaningful.

  • Choose cleaner energy: Learn about clean energy and share the message with others.

  • Grow something green: Start a garden at home, school or in your community.

  • Raise awareness: Talk to others about air pollution and why clean air matters.

  • Make cleaner choices: Where possible, walk, cycle, carpool or use public transport.

One action can inspire another. Together, we can build cleaner communities, healthier environments and a future where everyone can breathe better.
