Project Overview
About Us

Breathe Better Together is the community engagement and behaviour-change arm of the Breathe Joburg initiative. It works directly with residents, youth, schools, and community-based organisations to increase awareness of air pollution and its health impacts, while promoting practical actions that individuals and communities can take to protect themselves and improve local air quality.
We collaborate with leading global partners, including C40 Cities, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the Clean Air Fund, to drive impactful and lasting change.
Together with the City of Johannesburg, we combine global expertise with local action to address the city’s air quality challenges.
Our work focuses on strengthening air quality data, supporting innovative policies, and empowering communities. Through initiatives such as Breathe Better Together and Clean Air Jozi, we raise awareness, inspire collective action, and mobilize residents to be part of the solution.
At Breathe Joburg, we believe that clean air is a basic right. By working across sectors and with communities, we aim to build a future where everyone in Johannesburg can breathe cleaner, healthier air.
