On the 31st October 2025, Bontle ke Tlhago Cooperative hosted a vibrant school-based air quality awareness campaign and award ceremony, aimed at empowering learners to understand the causes and impacts of air pollution while encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour. The campaign brought together 142 learners from 10 schools, creating a powerful platform for environmental education and youth engagement.

The programme introduced learners to the connection between everyday activities and the quality of the air they breathe, with sessions covering topics such as the health impacts of polluted air, the dangers of burning waste, waste separation, and responsible recycling practices. Learners were also introduced to the role of waste pickers and the importance of e-waste recycling in reducing environmental pollution.

Creative and interactive methods—including drama performances, recycling songs, poetry, and question-and-answer sessions—made the campaign both educational and engaging. These activities helped translate complex environmental concepts into relatable messages, encouraging learners to become active participants in protecting their communities and promoting cleaner air.

As part of the programme, selected learners were recognized as School Eco Buddies and trained as Clean Air Ambassadors under the National Youth Service programme, equipping them with knowledge and leadership skills to promote environmental awareness in their schools and communities.

The initiative was implemented in collaboration with partners including Seriti Institute, Pikitup, EWASA, Petco, and Fibre Circle, demonstrating strong multi-stakeholder commitment to environmental education. By combining environmental science, creativity, and youth leadership, the campaign successfully strengthened air quality awareness among young people, laying the foundation for long-term community action toward cleaner and healthier environments.
