Our daily habits determine the quality of air we breathe. On the 11th of October, 2025, the South African Learner Support Organisation (SALSO) hosted a powerful awareness campaign in Lufhereng, aimed at helping parents understand their role in reducing air pollution and protecting their families’ health.

Through a practical and engaging approach, the campaign focused on educating parents about how common practices like waste burning and illegal dumping contribute to poor air quality. At the same time, it introduced simple, realistic solutions such as home gardening, using natural pesticides, and switching to reusable products to reduce waste. By linking these actions directly to cleaner air and healthier homes, the campaign made the message clear and actionable.

Held in partnership with Little Stars Day Care Centre, the session created a supportive space for learning and participation. Parents showed strong interest in the topics discussed, especially in finding ways to reduce pollution in their own homes. The donation of trees and plants further strengthened the initiative, leaving behind a lasting symbol of growth and sustainability.

Overall, the campaign successfully achieved its goal of raising awareness and inspiring behavior at a household level. It proved that when parents are informed and involved, they can drive meaningful change, creating cleaner air not just for their families but for the entire community.
