Breathe Cities Partners with City of Johannesburg, Seriti Institute and Kwande Eco Enviro to Champion Clean Air Awareness in Region G

Breathe Cities, in collaboration with the City of Johannesburg and Seriti, has joined hands with Kwande Eco Enviro, a dedicated community-based organisation (CBO) rooted in Lenasia, Region G to drive a powerful campaign aimed at improving air quality and promoting healthier communities.

Kwande Eco Enviro has long been committed to environmental action, working closely with residents, schools, and local leaders to address pollution challenges that directly affect daily lives. Through workshops, clean-up drives, community engagements, and youth education initiatives, the organisation plays a vital role in spreading knowledge about the impacts of air pollution and the importance of adopting sustainable practices at home and in public spaces.

This partnership strengthens ongoing efforts to build awareness around clean air, empower residents with practical solutions, and encourage community-led action to reduce pollution. By combining residents, local stakeholders and municipal support, the initiative aims to create lasting change ensuring that the people of Lenasia and surrounding areas can breathe cleaner and healthier air.

Together, these partners are working toward a future where environmental justice, community health, and sustainable urban living are at the forefront of Johannesburg’s development.

This campaign adopted an interactive, community-based approach where information stands and banners were set up to promote key messages on zero waste and cleaner air. Partners and guest speakers delivered engaging presentations on recycling systems, environmental health, and the importance of reducing waste burning.

Practical demonstrations showed residents how to sort recyclables correctly and maintain cleaner, more sustainable spaces. The event also encouraged open dialogue between community members, municipal officials, and industry partners, helping to identify collaborative actions to improve air quality across the area.
