The City of Johannesburg has officially rolled out South Africa’s first-ever roadside remote sensing study, which is basically a high-tech sniff test for your car’s exhaust. This is the city’s bold move to crack down on real-world vehicle emissions, and this time, it’s not just for show.
In collaboration with the University of Johannesburg’s PEETS (that’s the Process, Energy and Environment Technology Station, if you want to impress someone) and the International Council on Clean Transportation, the city’s climate change and air quality unit is coming for Gauteng’s dirty air, armed with sensors and data, TimesLIVE reported.
