On the 30th of May 2026, the “Atlegang Bana Foundation” brought the streets of Dobsonville to life with a peaceful climate action march aimed at raising awareness about the impact of air pollution on climate change. The campaign formed part of the organization’s ongoing efforts under the Clean Air Fund programme to educate communities about environmental challenges and inspire collective action towards a cleaner, healthier future.
The march was organized in response to growing concerns about the effects of air pollution on both the environment and human well-being. Through the campaign, participants highlighted the important connection between air pollution and climate change, emphasizing that polluted air not only affects public health but also contributes to rising global temperatures, changing weather patterns, and increasing environmental risks. The campaign’s message was clear: reducing air pollution is an essential step in protecting both people and the planet.
In preparation for the event, volunteers conducted community outreach and distributed posters to inform residents about the march and its purpose. Parents, community members, and learners were invited to participate, creating a diverse and inclusive platform for environmental advocacy. The campaign began at DSJ Primary School, where participants gathered for a briefing before setting off through the community carrying placards and awareness messages focused on clean air and climate action.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the march was the active involvement of young people. Learners enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to become environmental advocates, using their creativity to design and create their own placards from cardboard and paper. Their messages called for greater environmental responsibility and encouraged community members to consider how everyday actions contribute to air pollution and climate change.
As the march moved through Dobsonville, it attracted attention from residents and passersby, sparking conversations about climate change and the importance of cleaner air. The visibility of the campaign helped bring environmental issues into public spaces, encouraging community members to reflect on the role they can play in reducing pollution and protecting the environment. According to the organization, the march generated significant interest and curiosity, with many residents stopping to engage with participants and learn more about the campaign’s message.
Beyond raising awareness, the campaign empowered participants to become active contributors to environmental change. Learners and community members left the event with a greater understanding of how air pollution affects climate systems and why local action matters in addressing global challenges.
Through this climate action march, the Atlegang Bana Foundation demonstrated the power of community engagement in driving environmental awareness. By giving residents, parents, and young people a platform to speak out on climate issues, the organisation transformed environmental education into visible action, inspiring the community to continue advocating for cleaner air and a healthier environment for future generations.
