Project Summary

The Air Aware Youth-led communications campaign seeks to mobilise youth to serve as enablers to drive demand for air quality management in Johannesburg. In partnership with Youth@SAIIA, the youth-led awareness campaign aims to:

Create awareness among young people (13 – 25 years old) on air pollution, and its impacts on health and highlight the importance of clean air for all.

Document and share perspectives, and recommendations on air quality and its impacts based on the lived experience of youth in the city, thereby creating increased demand for improved air quality-focused policy interventions from government.

Improve youth engagement in air quality policy and decision-making processes in Johannesburg.
